Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has a glaring red flag heading into the NFL Draft.

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson decided to declare for the NFL Draft in spite of a rather rough second half of the season, and with Dante Moore returning to Oregon, Simpson is the consensus No. 2 signal-caller in the class.

But that doesn't mean Simpson would not be an incredibly risky selection.

The New York Jets, for example, are in dire need of a quarterback and own a pair of first-round draft picks at No. 2 and No. 16. You would think Simpson would unquestionably be on their radar.

However, Michael Nania of Jets X-Factor has revealed a frightening concern about Simpson that New York — and other NFL teams — will certainly be weighing heavily.

"The most significant concern, though, might be Simpson’s lack of starting experience," Nania wrote. "Simpson sat on the bench for his first three years at Alabama. He started all 15 games in 2025, and those are the only 15 starts he will take with him to the NFL. This is a terrifying sign."

History is not exactly on Simpson's side here. Since 2015, six quarterbacks have entered the NFL with fewer than 20 college starts: Kyler Murray, Trey Lance, Mac Jones, Dwayne Haskins, Anthony Richardson and Mitchell Trubisky.

Murray is the only member of that group who has experienced any sort of success, and the Arizona Cardinals seem prepared to move on from him this offseason.

"Simply put, using a first-round pick on a quarterback with under 20 college starts is a major risk. Six teams have done it since 2015, and six teams regretted it," Nania added.

Simpson threw for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 64.5 percent of his passes in 2025. Most of that damage came during the first half of the campaign.

To be fair, Simpson dealt with a myriad of injury issues late in the season, and he was knocked out of Alabama's Rose Bowl loss to Indiana as a result of a cracked rib.

But even before the injuries, there were many who had questions about Simpson and whether or not his game would actually translate on to the professional level.

Simpson's arm strength is only decent, and while he is mobile, he isn't incredibly athletic, which will definitely inhibit him.

We'll see where Simpson ends up being drafted and whether or not he is able to forge a fruitful NFL career.
