Crimson Tide star Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. faces indefinite suspension after a high-speed chase and multiple charges in Tuscaloosa, shaking Alabama's defense.

Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been suspended indefinitely from the Crimson Tide football program following his arrest early Saturday morning in Tuscaloosa.

Kirkpatrick was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of attempting to elude, and one count of speeding. All five charges are misdemeanors. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and later released on a $1,500 bond.

In a statement Monday, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed the suspension, emphasizing the importance of accountability within the program.“Unfortunately, with the information that I have at this time, I talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him,” DeBoer said. “He understands there are consequences that come with his actions.”

According to a police deposition obtained by 247Sports, the incident began shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of University Boulevard and Campus Drive. Officers on foot observed a white Mercedes sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and “accelerating without regard to heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.”

Police attempted to stop the vehicle by signaling for the driver to pull into a ride-share lane. “I verbally told the driver to pull over and stop the vehicle,” one officer wrote. “The vehicle began moving towards the ride share lane and then pulled back towards the driving lane while [two other officers] were in front of the car and I was pulling on the door handle.”

According to the report, the driver continued forward, forcing officers to move out of the path of the vehicle before it sped off. Officers struck the vehicle and driver’s side window in an attempt to get the driver to stop. The driver was later identified as University of Alabama student D’Andre Javon Kirkpatrick Jr., with whom officers stated they had prior interactions on the Strip.

Police said they attempted to follow the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

Kirkpatrick, the son of former Alabama All-American and NFL cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick Sr., joined the Crimson Tide in 2023.

For the season, he has recorded 2 solo tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass deflection/

The university has not announced a timeline for Kirkpatrick’s potential reinstatement.
