After years of scrutiny, a revitalized roster and a looming revenge game against Florida State signal that the Crimson Tide have finally recaptured their ruthless, championship-caliber edge.
Attention to detail. Accountability. Maximum effort. Relentless effort.
When you Google “what is the Bama Standard,” you get those four traits.
Over the past two seasons under the leadership of Kalen DeBoer, many had wondered whether DeBoer had the personality to continue the teachings of his predecessor, Nick Saban.
However, in Year 3, DeBoer may have figured it out.
It takes years for a new philosophy to truly take hold in a locker room, and for DeBoer, it took two years to fully figure out who his “guys” were.
Now that he knows who they are, the air of confidence in Tuscaloosa is as strong as ever.
"We're Bama, that's what we expect from everybody," cornerback and captain Zabien Brown told reporters on Tuesday morning. "We're everybody's Super Bowl, and we expect to get everybody's best shot. We want nothing less.

Last season, Florida State shocked the world by beating the Crimson Tide 31-17 in the first week of the 2025 season.
There’s certainly a lot of motivation coming from both the Tide and the Seminoles, but DeBoer made it clear that this game is one that has been circled on their calendars.
“In our minds, this is the 2026 team,” DeBoer said. “But I know there’s a lot of guys, including our staff, that certainly know what it felt like last year walking off that football field.”
Confident, with a chip on their shoulders. Some would call that a deadly combination.
DeBoer made it a point last season to remind his guys how that game in Tallahassee went. Evoke the anger and let it resonate throughout the season.
It’s only been two weeks, but there’s something different about this Alabama roster than the past two seasons.
We’re seeing that edge that previous Saban-coached teams have had. We’ve seen the passion from the players, and the demand for excellence from the coaching staff.
And most importantly – upholding the Bama Standard.
Many had seemingly written off Alabama this season. The Tide were ranked 13th prior to the season’s start, marking it the first time in 20 years that Alabama was preseason ranked outside the top 10.
And now, after the Kentucky win, Alabama is back in the top 10.
For two years, DeBoer has been tasked with carrying on a standard that wasn't his to create. Now, with a roster he has helped build and a locker room that appears to have fully bought in, he may finally be putting his own stamp on it.
The Bama Standard never left Tuscaloosa.
Perhaps DeBoer has finally made it his own.
