Alabama star Keelon Russell was a major factor in the team's win last week.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are currently on a bye week right now, coming off a big win over the Texas A&M Aggies a week ago.
Alabama holds a record of 6-2 on the season, with the team being ranked No. 10 in the country. The Crimson Tide have gotten off to a strong start, even with the two-game losing streak on the resume.
The win over Texas A&M helped this team get back on track, and now the players will get some needed rest during the bye week. There is a lot of optimism around the program coming off the victory over the Aggies, including around star quarterback Keelon Russell.
College football analyst Joel Rueter of Bleacher Report gave out grades for every quarterback from last week. Among these, Russell was granted a letter grade of "A" for his performance against Texas A&M.
Russell threw for 311 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the game, getting himself back on track. After a tough outing the week prior against the Tennessee Volunteers Russell bounced back in a big way to lead Alabama to the win.
The performance for Russell against the Aggies with his back against the wall is exactly why Alabama has been confident in his play. While he has seen some ups and downs, Russell has been fairly stable for this team all season long.
Overall, Russell has thrown for 2,057 yards with 15 touchdown passes and five interceptions on the year. On the ground, Russell has rushed for 251 yards with five touchdowns, showing a strong dual-threat ability.
Entering the season, there were real questions about how Russell would perform, mainly stemming from his lack of experience. But so far, the signal-caller has answered the bell for the Crimson Tide with his play.
However, Russell and this team understand that there is still a lot of work to be done for the program to reach its goals. For Alabama, anything less than a National Championship is considered a failed season, and this is the mindset that the Crimson Tide has right now.
Russell will need to keep playing well for the Crimson Tide for the team to make the College Football Playoff. And given that Alabama has lost two games, they likely can't afford to drop another contest this year.
Next up for the Crimson Tide and Russell will be a massive game against the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge. The winner of this game will be given an edge in SEC play, making it one of the largest games for Alabama this season.
