Where could Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson land in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft?

With the 2026 NFL Draft just a couple of months away, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson has become one of the more intriguing names to keep an eye on.

Simpson wrapped up his first season as the starter at Alabama in 2025. He put together a strong season and led the Crimson Tide to the Rose Bowl, where they ultimately were defeated by Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers.

At one point during the year, Simpson was considered to be a top-tier Heisman Trophy candidate. His production leveled off late in the season and he was eliminated from contention, but he was able to improve his draft stock in the process.

Many expect to see the Alabama signal caller drafted in the first round of the 2026 draft. He could fall to the second round, although that would be a surprise.

All of that being said, let's take a look at the three best potential landing spots for Simpson in the NFL Draft this year.

3. New York Jets

One potential team to watch could be the Jets, who have a clear need for a long-term franchise quarterback. Justin Fields didn't work out in the 2025 season and Dante Moore opted to return to Oregon for another college season.

Moore was widely expected to be the No. 2 pick in the draft by New York.

Simpson could make sense for the Jets with the No. 16 overall pick, which was acquired from the Indianapolis Colts in the Sauce Gardner trade. New York could take a flier on him in the middle of the first round, which would give Simpson a chance to get on the field early in his career.

2. Cleveland Browns

Another team who could use more quarterback talent is the Browns. Granted, they have Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson, but the position isn't as crowded as it appears to be on paper.

Sanders is the only quarterback on the roster who might be a long-term option for Cleveland. Gabriel wasn't good during his rookie season and Watson is an aging quarterback who hasn't performed well for the Browns during his tenure with the team.

Bringing in Simpson to compete with Sanders might be an ideal scenario for Cleveland.

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

There is one team that stands out head and shoulders above the rest of the NFL as the ideal destination for Simpson. Of course, that team is none other than the Steelers.

Aaron Rodgers is still an option to come back for the 2026 season. If he does decide to return, the future Hall of Famer would be an excellent mentor for Simpson. He would also allow the young quarterback time to develop from the sideline.

Simpson would then hit the ground running with Pittsburgh and would compete with former Ohio State standout Will Howard for the job after Rodgers retires.
