There’s something special brewing in Tuscaloosa right now.
On Tuesday night at Rhoads Stadium, Alabama softball kept its perfect season alive with an 8-1 victory over Samford, pushing the Crimson Tide to 24-0 on the year. And if you’ve been watching this team closely, you know this group isn’t just winning games, they’re starting to control them.
For the first couple of innings, things were quiet.
Alabama and Samford traded scoreless frames early as both pitching staffs settled in. But once the Tide bats woke up in the third inning, the momentum quickly shifted, and it never really swung back.
Leading the charge once again was Brooke Wells, who continues to swing one of the hottest bats in the SEC. Wells blasted a two-run home run in the third inning to ignite a four-run rally for Alabama. She wasn’t finished there either. Later in the game, Wells launched her second homer of the night, finishing with a huge 3-for-4 performance that included three RBIs and two runs scored.
Simply put: she’s seeing the ball incredibly well right now.
The performance pushed Wells to 10 home runs on the season, giving her the team lead. Not far behind her is Alexis Pupillo, who also had a big night at the plate. Pupillo went a perfect 3-for-3 and crushed her ninth home run of the year while continuing an impressive streak of reaching base in 20 consecutive games.
Between Wells and Pupillo, Alabama’s lineup continues to look dangerous from top to bottom. The two combined for six hits, five runs scored, and four RBIs in the win.
And as good as the bats were, the pitching staff once again delivered.
Kaitlyn Pallozzi got the start in the circle and struck out six over three solid innings of work. After that, the bullpen slammed the door shut. Vic Moten picked up the win with three dominant innings in relief, facing just 10 batters while keeping Samford off balance. Alea Johnson then closed things out with a lightning-quick seventh inning, throwing just eight pitches, seven of them strikes.
That kind of efficiency has become a theme for Alabama this season.
The pitching staff continues to attack hitters while the defense behind them plays clean, confident softball.
Head coach Patrick Murphy praised the team’s focus after the game and made it clear the job isn’t finished.
The Crimson Tide now sit one win away from matching the historic 25-0 start from the 2007 season, one of the best openings in program history.
But the real test is coming.
A top-10 Arkansas team heads to Tuscaloosa this weekend for a huge SEC showdown.
If this Alabama team keeps playing the way it has been, Rhoads Stadium could be in for another electric series.
For now though, the Tide remain perfect.
And they don’t look satisfied yet.
