If the first weekend of SEC play is any indication, Alabama softball looks every bit like a team that’s ready to make serious noise this season.
The Crimson Tide traveled to Oxford on Friday and walked away with exactly what you hope to get on the road in conference play: a series win.
Alabama swept a Friday doubleheader against Ole Miss, taking game one 5-3 before exploding for a 13-2 run-rule victory in game two.
With the two wins, Alabama improved to a perfect 22-0 overall and 2-0 in SEC play, and the way they did it showed just how dangerous this team can be when everything starts clicking.
The opener was much more of a battle. Alabama grabbed the lead twice, but each time Ole Miss answered in the following half inning to keep things tight. That changed in the fifth inning when the Crimson Tide showed patience at the plate. With the bases loaded, Alabama drew back-to-back walks to push across two crucial runs and take a 5-3 lead.
From there, Jocelyn Briski and the Alabama defense slammed the door shut. Briski earned the complete-game victory to improve to 7-0, as the Tide retired nine of the final ten Rebel batters to secure the win.
If game one was a grind, game two was an avalanche.
Alabama wasted no time putting pressure on Ole Miss, scoring nine unanswered runs across the first three innings and completely taking control of the game early. The Tide’s offense kept piling it on before finishing things with a four-run sixth inning that pushed the game into run-rule territory for a dominant 13-2 victory.
At the center of the offensive explosion was Brooke Wells, who had an absolutely perfect day at the plate. Wells finished 6-for-6 with two walks, three runs scored, and four RBIs, reaching base every single time she stepped in the batter’s box.
Ana Roman also delivered a huge swing for Alabama, launching a three-run home run in the second inning of game two as part of a four-RBI day. Lauren Johnson added her second home run of the season during a 3-for-5 performance, while Ambrey Taylor continued to shine in pinch-hit opportunities with her third homer of the year.
In the circle, Kaitlyn Pallozzi came in relief in game two and delivered one of her best outings of the season, earning the win and continuing to show the depth Alabama has in its pitching staff.
Head coach Patrick Murphy emphasized just how difficult it is to win SEC series on the road, especially in a doubleheader.
But Alabama found a way, thanks to timely hitting, strong pitching, and a lineup that can erupt at any moment.
The job isn’t finished yet, though.
Alabama will look to finish the sweep against Ole Miss on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
But one thing is already clear: this Crimson Tide team isn’t just winning games.
Right now, they’re setting the tone for the entire SEC.
