Underdogs triumph! Alabama women's basketball shocks Tennessee with dominant offense and defense to advance in the SEC Tournament.

When the calendar turns to March, it’s all about surviving and advancing.

And on Thursday, Alabama women’s basketball did exactly that.

The 11th-seeded Crimson Tide delivered one of its most impressive performances of the season, knocking off sixth-seeded Tennessee 76-64 in the second round of the SEC Tournament.

With the win, Alabama improves to 23-9 on the season and punches its ticket to the tournament quarterfinals.

From the opening tip, Alabama looked like the more aggressive team. The Crimson Tide set the tone early and never let Tennessee gain control of the game. In fact, the Lady Vols only managed to tie the game once during the first quarter, and from that moment forward Alabama maintained its grip on the lead for the remainder of the night.

Offensively, Alabama was powered by two standout performances from Jessica Timmons and Ta’Mia Scott. The duo combined for 43 of the team’s 76 points and kept the pressure on Tennessee’s defense all night long.

Timmons led the way with 23 points while also pulling down six rebounds to lead the team on the glass. Scott added 20 points of her own and consistently found ways to create scoring opportunities when Alabama needed them most. The pair provided the offensive spark that helped the Crimson Tide maintain momentum throughout the game.

But this victory wasn’t just about scoring. Alabama’s defense played a major role in the win as well.

Karly Weathers was a defensive force, recording six steals and creating constant problems for Tennessee’s offense. Her ability to disrupt passing lanes and apply pressure helped Alabama generate extra possessions and control the pace of the game.

Tennessee was led by Janiah Barker, who finished with 20 points, while Zee Spearman added six rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Lady Vols struggled to overcome Alabama’s defensive intensity and balanced scoring attack.

After the game, head coach Kristy Curry praised the effort and toughness her team showed throughout the contest.

“This was a great team win,” Curry said. “A lot of grit, a lot of toughness. We made plays when we needed to and stayed consistent. I thought we played really good team basketball, and I’m just really happy for our team to survive and advance and get to play another day.”

And that’s exactly what Alabama did.

In tournament basketball, nothing comes easy.

But on Thursday night, the Crimson Tide showed resilience, toughness, and the kind of team chemistry that can make March a whole lot of fun.

Alabama is moving on and will face Texas tonight at 7:30 PM CT.
