Former Alabama star quarterback Ty Simpson has landed some major praise from an NFL superstar.
The Alabama Crimson Tide had quite a bit of success with quarterback Ty Simpson leading the charge during the 2025 college football season. In his lone season as the starter, he did enough to end up being the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
During the 2025 season, Simpson led the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoff. He also led the team to a big road win over the Oklahoma Sooners to advance before being eliminated by the Indiana Hoosiers.
Simpson completed 64.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions. At one point during the year, he was a top Heisman Trophy candidate.
In the NFL Draft, Simpson ended up finding himself in a perfect situation. He was taken by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round and will begin his career as a backup behind reigning MVP Matthew Stafford.
After one season as a college starter, Simpson could use some experience on the sideline before being thrown onto the field. That is exactly what will happen. He will also have the luxury of learning from one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Keeping that in mind, Stafford recently spoke out about Simpson and showered the former Alabama star with praise.
"I'm there with him in the meeting room, on the practice field, trying to share as much knowledge as I can. I was a big fan of Ty when he played at Alabama. I sent him a message right after the draft saying, 'I really enjoyed watching you play. You were just wearing the wrong jersey, you weren't a 'Dog,'" Stafford said.
"He's a very talented kid. I'll do everything I can to get this team ready to play and win, but at the same time, I want to share some of the knowledge I've gained throughout my career. I wouldn't be in this chair talking to you all today, after a really good season, if I hadn't had people who helped me along the way, too. So, I'm happy to do it."
Stafford continued on, revealing that Simpson has been a "sponge" since landing with the Rams.
"And he's been a sponge, man. He's seeking to improve, and actually that goes for our whole team, all the young guys we drafted."
Everything about his NFL situation is exactly what Simpson needed. He ended up with a great franchise and with a veteran quarterback who is excited about helping him.
While the Crimson Tide fan base likely won't see him play much if at all as a rookie, the future is incredibly bright for Simpson.
