Freshman Firepower: Vic Moten Dominates as Alabama Softball Shuts Out No. 7 Florida State cover image

Freshman Vic Moten ignites Alabama softball's dominant 8-0 shutout, silencing No. 7 Florida State with a masterful pitching performance and an explosive offensive barrage.

If anyone was wondering whether Alabama softball is for real this season, Friday night delivered a loud, undeniable answer.

Behind a lights-out performance from freshman pitcher Vic Moten and an explosive offensive surge, No. 9 Alabama shut out No. 7 Florida State 8-0 in one of the biggest early-season matchups in the country.

In a hostile environment and against a top-10 opponent, the Crimson Tide didn’t just win, they controlled the game from start to finish.

Moten was the story from the circle. The freshman right-hander pitched with the poise of a seasoned veteran, silencing a dangerous Seminole lineup and never allowing Florida State to build any momentum. She attacked hitters, trusted her defense, and showed zero fear on a big stage. Performances like this are how young stars announce themselves nationally, and Moten did exactly that.

For three innings, the game felt like a heavyweight fight, with both teams trading scoreless frames.

Then Alabama’s bats erupted in the fourth inning, and the entire tone of the game shifted instantly.

Brooke Wells got things started with a towering solo home run that broke the tension and put the Tide on the board. Alexis Pupillo followed with a blast of her own, and before Florida State could regroup, freshman slugger Ana Roman crushed a two-run shot to cap a stunning three-homer inning. Just like that, Alabama had seized a 4-0 lead and complete control.

And they weren’t done.

The Tide poured it on late, adding four more runs in the seventh inning with clutch hitting up and down the lineup. Pupillo delivered again with an RBI single, Jena Young added another run-scoring hit, and Kristen White provided the knockout blow with a two-run single that stretched the lead to eight.

Alabama finished with 11 hits, showcasing both power and timely situational hitting. Wells led the charge with a three-hit night, while Pupillo and Roman continued to prove that this lineup has dangerous production from top to bottom.

Most impressive of all was how complete the performance was.

Dominant pitching.

Explosive power.

Clutch hitting.

Strong defense.

Against a top-10 opponent ON THE ROAD, no less.

Now sitting at 11-0, this Alabama team isn’t just winning, they’re sending a message.

The Tide looks deeper, tougher, and more confident than they have in years, and they’re doing it with a mix of experienced leaders and fearless freshmen who aren’t waiting their turn.

If this game was any indication, Alabama softball isn’t just off to a hot start.

They’re building something special.

Roll Tide.
