Former Alabama star Bryce Young has put together a strong start to the year.
The University of Alabama football team has been one of the more successful programs around the country over the last 20-plus years.
Part of this has been due to coaching, while the history of the program has helped recruit some of the best prospects. One of the better players to come out of Alabama recently has been quarterback Bryce Young.
Young won the Heisman Trophy with Alabama in 2021, cementing his legacy with the program. But the signal-caller has gone on to put together a decent NFL career so far, even if there have been some bumps in the road.
The former Alabama star was the No. 1 overall pick of the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he's been the starter since. While Young has seen some ups and downs over his NFL career, he has finally seemed to put things together in 2026.
So far this season, Young has thrown for 1,712 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions for the Panthers. Carolina has a record of 3-3 on the season, and Young did generate some MVP buzz earlier in the year.
But entering Week 8 of the season, Young has been ranked as the No. 15 quarterback in a new ranking from NFL.com analyst Nick Shook. Young dropped eight spots heading into this week after a poor performance last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The former Alabama quarterback still is seen as a top player for the 2026 season, but his play last week was concerning. Young threw for 163 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions as Carolina was blown out by Tampa Bay.
Young will have a chance to redeem himself this coming week against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football, getting his 2026 season back on track. But if he were to struggle again against Green Bay, it could cause some concern around the Panthers as a whole.
After a few years of questions around Young's play, if he were to regress back, Carolina could be in some trouble. The Panthers believe that Young has turned a corner this season, and he has looked much stronger.
If Young can put together a strong game against a tough Packers defense, his performance against Tampa Bay will be a blip on his 2026 season. The Crimson Tide faithful will be watching closely, rooting for their former star to perform well.
