Every season, when the coaching carousel starts spinning after coaches are fired midseason, one name always gets dragged into the mix: Nick Saban.
The moment a big job opens, fans start whispering, “What if Saban comes out of retirement?”
And it’s not a shocking question. After all, many programs would literally love to have Nick Saban as a head coach. It makes sense. He’s retired, and programs need a coach like him.
But, let’s go ahead and shut that down right now. Nick Saban isn’t coming back to coaching. Not to Alabama. Not to anywhere.
The GOAT himself has made that abundantly clear. Recently, Saban joked “I want to stay retired. I do not want (Jimmy Sexton) anywhere near Miss Terry. Because when she hears some of these numbers, she gets interested. And I’m not interested.”
Classic Saban: direct, sharp, and a little funny. But more importantly, it’s the truth. He’s done. He’s content. And he’s exactly where he wants to be.
Nick Saban gave Alabama everything he had for 17 years. Seven national championships, countless draft picks, and a legacy that forever changed the sport. He didn’t just build a dynasty; he built the standard for college football.
His impact on Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama goes far beyond the field. He and Miss Terry have poured into this community, into young athletes, and into the state as a whole.
When Saban retired, it wasn’t because he was restless or chasing something else. No. It was because he knew his time on the sidelines had reached its perfect conclusion.
He’s not sitting around waiting for a call from another school. He’s not itching to get back to recruiting or film sessions. He’s at peace with what he’s accomplished, and he’s proud of it. As he should be.
Yes, Alabama football feels different without him pacing the sidelines. But that’s okay.
His fingerprints are still all over this program, and his influence will guide it for years to come.
Nick Saban isn’t making a comeback. He’s enjoying the next chapter of life: retired, relaxed, and still the greatest to ever do it.
