Ty Simpson has look like a star this season for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson had a major “welcome to the show” moment when he made his first career college start on Week 1.
He looked erratic against Florida State, skittish, uncertain of his ability, and inaccurate on a couple of deep throws.
But since then, Simpson has proven just why he was one of the more sought-after recruits in the 2022 class.
Over the first three weeks of the college football season, Simpson has produced awe-inspiring numbers. He currently sits as the eighth-most efficient passer in the nation with a passer rating of 186.64.
Along with that, he’s thrown for over 860 yards, averaging 286 yards per game, is 18th in completion percentage (71.3%), and is third in touchdowns with nine.
The big test for Simpson though will be whether he can keep it up.
The atmosphere at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee wasn’t for the weak of heart. It was loud, intimidating, it rained a little, and to top it all off, Florida State looks really good.
Anyone who is making their first career start in that environment would’ve been shaking in their cleats too.
But what if Week 1 was just a fluke? Simpson is getting thrown back into the fire quickly, after two weeks of pure domination.
Since then, Simpson has dominated and has done it with flare.
In Week 2 against UL Monroe, he was a perfect 17-for-17 with three touchdown passes. The following week against Wisconsin, he completed 24 passes out of 29 attempts with four touchdowns.
With every experience you have, you get better from learning what not to do. Week 1 was a reality check, can Week 5 be the response?
With a bye approaching this upcoming week, it gives the Alabama Crimson Tide extra time to prepare for conference play, and Simpson will be thrust into the role that he was in a few weeks ago.
A loud, raucous stadium in Athens, GA facing one of the best teams in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs.
Alabama football reporter and personality on YouTube, Kyle Henderson has started the “Tyeisman” campaign on his channel lauding him for his performance and believing that it can be parlayed into a Heisman Trophy campaign.
Currently, the Heisman Trophy favorite seems to be Oklahoma’s John Mateer, and On3’s Pete Nakos doesn’t even have Simpson in his top-10, even behind Cal freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele.
One thing is for sure though, if the Simpson that we’ve seen in the past two weeks shows up in Athens, and not the one we saw in Tallahassee, he’ll find his way into the conversation.
He’s looked the part every step of the way since then, and there’s no doubt that a resurgence is on the way.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer has assured the media and fans that he and his staff aren’t letting up, and not letting his team forget about what happened on August 30.
The Tide has won the games they were supposed to since then, can they keep up the momentum against an SEC juggernaut?
