Arkansas football, Ryan Silverfield need a real QB solution

We can't deny reality: KJ Jackson has not measured up in 2026

After a week off, we all wondered what kind of Arkansas football team we would see against Missouri on Halloween. We specifically wondered what kind of offense the Razorbacks would put on the field. The results could not have been much more disillusioning and depressing than they actually were. The Arkansas defense wasn't that bad, which continues the general theme of the season. The defense isn't great, but it looks fundamentally competent. The offense, however, remains a different story. Ryan Silverfield can't get this unit to sustain quality performance. The Vanderbilt game was a decent effort all things considered, but that was Vanderbilt, the worst team in the SEC. Arkansas has to be able to bring something substantial to the table against opponents which are better than Vandy or Tulsa. At the start of November, with just one month and four games left in the season, Silverfield hasn't been able to raise the bar.

In many ways, the conversation surrounding the Arkansas offense is very simple: Play two good games in a row. Show us that one week can carry over to another, especially with two weeks to prepare for an opponent (Missouri) at home. Do this. Do this just one time and prove that what the coaches are telling the players can really sink in and be retained. It hasn't happened yet. While plenty of players share the responsibility for not being able to turn the corner on offense, it all starts at the sport's most important position: quarterback.

KJ Jackson simply hasn't measured up this season. We don't enjoy saying this. Jackson works hard and makes an honest effort, and is a fine young man, but what else is there to say at this point? Purely in terms of evaluating his play, Jackson is not able to stand tall against non-Vanderbilt SEC teams. That's not a ruthlessly harsh or unfair characterization. That's basic reality. It isn't meant to be personal; it's meant to simply reflect where Arkansas' offense stands eight games into the season against SEC football competition.

Jackson himself would admit his play hasn't risen to the hoped-for standard at Arkansas. Let's be specific in saying "hoped-for" and not "expected," because frankly, we don't expect Jackson to play well. That's not what we usually see when he takes the field.

After a week off, Jackson committed multiple turnovers and once again put UA behind the eight-ball. If this stuff is still happening at the end of October, why would we expect it to stop in November?

Arkansas needs a field general who can cover up other roster limitations. KJ Jackson has become a limitation himself. This is why UA and Ryan Silverfield need a massive upgrade at QB going into 2027. The truth is there. It's hard if not impossible to ignore it.
