Ryan Silverfield continues to add to his Arkansas football transfer portal haul. WholeHog Sports has more details on this story:
"Arkansas football landed the commitment of Temple transfer offensive lineman Lucas Possenti as a preferred walk-on Saturday.
"Possenti, 6-5 and 305 pounds, joined Temple as a walk-on in 2024 and redshirted that season. He entered the NCAA transfer portal after the 2025 season and has three years of eligibility remaining. He picked Arkansas over a scholarship offer from Stetson and a preferred walk-on opportunity at Oklahoma State. Possenti is expected to enroll at Arkansas this summer."
Arkansas had already brought in more than 40 transfers for 2026. The Razorbacks were graded highly by On3 Sports because of the volume of their class. Other transfer portal classes such as Indiana's weren't nearly as large, but had such a high quality of individiual player that they still rated near the top. Arkansas achieved its high rating by loading up on depth pieces which gained reasonable enough grades to boost the overall final number in the formula.
Now Ryan Silverfield is bringing in another player. It's really good news that this is an offensive lineman. Arkansas does not have a slam-dunk answer at the quarterback position. If we are being realistic about the future of Arkansas football, the pieces aren't probably going to come together -- not fully, at any rate -- for the passing game and the quarterback position this season. We can hope for the best, but expectations should be tempered until we see a lot more at the quarterback spot.
Silverfield and his offensive staff need to prove they can develop the passers they have, which is no sure thing and therefore a central test of the new coach's acumen at Arkansas. Precisely because the passing game is such a question mark, UA can never have enough offensive linemen who will battle for spots in camp, sharpen each other like iron, and enter the 2026 season ready to perform at a higher level than many analysts -- and skeptics -- currently think is possible.
How does a struggling football program pick itself off the floor and rebuild? It's not magic or rocket science; it's basic logic: Build elite line play.
It's less about Lucas Possenti himself; we're not trying to get carried away with this acquisition. This is more a story about Arkansas and Silverfield doing their best to fortify their roster at a position of urgent need and considerable importance. We will see in the spring and especially the summer if the Hogs are ready to do better than many of the experts think.
