Let's see what happened in non-Arkansas SEC baseball developments on the first weekend of the new campaign

SEC baseball is here. Arkansas fans reveled in two wins over the weekend in Arlington. Let's see what else happened around the conference on its first weekend. We're not going to give you every score. There were plenty of cupcake games for a number of SEC schools against programs from smaller conferences. We'll mention results only if an SEC team lost one of those games.

On Friday, February 13 -- opening day -- Oklahoma beat Texas Tech. TCU knocked off Vanderbilt. Alabama lost to Washington State and Missouri fell to Mount Saint Mary's. Florida lost to UAB.

On Saturday, February 14, Vanderbilt beat Texas Tech. Alabama beat Washington State. South Carolina lost to Northern Kentucky. Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State. Georgia lost to Wright State.

On Sunday, February 15, Vanderbilt lost to Oklahoma State. Oklahoma beat TCU.

When one considers the difficult schedule Arkansas played on the opening weekend in Arlington, going 2-1 in those three games is a solid result. The Arkansas win over Oklahoma State figures to age well, since OSU then beat Vanderbilt later on the weekend. Losing to TCU is not going to significantly hurt Arkansas' resume. That's going to be a good loss by the end of the season. TCU beating Vanderbilt reinforces that point.

Speaking of Vanderbilt, the Commodores lost twice, so Arkansas is ahead of VU in the SEC pecking order. Yeah, it's just one weekend of games, but UA did have a better weekend than another prominent SEC baseball program.

The weekend results also delivered losses to Florida, Alabama, Missouri, Northern Kentucky, and Georgia against mostly smaller schools. Arkansas clearly had a better weekend than each of those teams.

Yes, we should also mention that LSU, Auburn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Texas all won the three games they played from Friday through Sunday. They all took care of business. We didn't include them in the daily results lists because they all played smaller schools. Mississippi State won two games over the weekend.

For the most part, the SEC flexed its muscles over the weekend. The 16-member conference lost fewer than 10 games over the three days of college baseball. It's kinda wild that Vanderbilt sits at the bottom of the conference with its two first-weekend losses. It is just one weekend, and Arkansas was three outs from having a two-loss weekend, so no Hog fans should be puffing out their chests too much. However, when the smoke cleared on Sunday night and every SEC baseball expert evaluated all the results across the conference, Arkansas clearly made out better than most. It's only one weekend, but the Hogs' first go-round of 2026 can be considered a success.

Now the Razorbacks have to build on that and fix their main problem: a lack of control from members of the pitching staff, both in the starting rotation and the bullpen.
