Arkansas' Taylen Green is embracing his situation with the Browns.
Taylen Green, being a very late NFL draft pick, knows he is not going to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2026. Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders will fight for the QB1 spot. Green just has to work hard, study up, and absorb the coaching he is receiving from Todd Monken and his staff. Browns Roundtable has more on Green's initial reaction to life in the NFL and his situation in Cleveland:
"'It definitely means a lot. Like you said, it's really cool. Just the vision that he has for me,' said Green. 'I'm just, especially my rookie year, I'm just here to help the team win. No matter what I have to do, I'm blessed to have this opportunity and blessed to have them draft me because not a lot of people get that opportunity. So if it's just running somebody over to get that touchdown, I'm going to run somebody over.'
"Green scored 35 rushing touchdowns during his five-year college career, between stops at Boise State (3 years) and Arkansas (2 years). His elite running ability is an elite trait that Berry and company believed was worth using a day three pick to acquire. Monken has specifically mentioned short yardage and goal line situations as potential opportunities to get Green on the field, but he's also not getting too far ahead of himself. He wants Green to learn the playbook and improve as a quarterback before throwing other things at him.
"'Probably too early to tell that," Monken mentioned, "but I could say that anybody with that kind of athleticism, I think, should he progress in certain areas of his game, I think there would be a possibility of him, whether it's short yardage, once you get in the low red zone, maybe some third down stuff that we could utilize.'
"Time will tell what Monken has planned for Green in his new look offense. In the meantime, Green has plenty on his plate already and plans on asking lots of questions of the other QBs he shares a room with along the way.
"'They have experience in the league and having high success at a high level. So I'm just the young pup,' said Green. 'I feel like a freshman again and just trying to take everything in and learn at a steep curve. I'm going to probably get on their nerves and ask a lot of questions, but that's okay.'"
It's certainly the right attitude and approach to take. Taylen Green just has to soak up knowledge and apply it when asked. There's nowhere to go but up, both for him and the Browns.
