Arizona State Heads Into Utah Matchup Nationally Ranked cover image

The Arizona State Sundevils go into Utah facing a dominate offense, a challenge the defense is looking forward to.

Arizona State is coming off of a hard-fought victory against nationally ranked TCU. Going into this game Utah was 4-1, and 1-1 in Big 12 competition. The Sundevils at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Utah came out on top with a 42-10 victory over ASU. The 32 point deficit is the largest against a ranked team since 2015, giving what people are saying is the worse lost in ASU coach Dillingham's era.

Utah's ground attack was the highlight, running for 276 yards. This set the most rushing yards for the Utes since entering the Big 12. Utah Quarterback Devon Dampier ran for three touchdowns, 120 yards on only 10 carries on his own.

Dampier had only 12 passing attempts in this game and 104 passing yards. We have to give credit to a Utah defense that stepped up immensely. Holding ASU to just 259 of total yards, stopping a strong Sundevil rushing game to having 135 yards on an impressive 40 carries.

The main issue that hurt ASU going into the game was the absence of quarterback Sam Levitt who was out with a foot injury. His backup stepping in for him was Jeff Sims who completed 18 of 38 passes for 124 yards and ran for 52 yards.

Arizona State defense had been very strong against the run for the most part this season. So the domination on the running game from Utah came as very surprising for most ASU fans.

Winning against ranked ASU is coming as a statement win for the Utes. Doing the exact opposite for the Sundevils knocking them out of the rankings. It was not just the win that looks good for the Utes but they way they won, in a dominate 42-10 victory against a ranked opponent.
