Arizona State University Pulls Off Tough Road Win Against Iowa State cover image

The Arizona State Sundevils pulled out a tough win against conference opponents Iowa State.

Hats off to both teams, ASU and Iowa State. This game gave us a little bit of everything a college football fan wants to see.

With plenty of drama at the end of the game and record setting runs, the Sundevils came out on top 24-19 against a great Big 12 oppponent.

Each team started off a little messy, both having suttle mistakes on the ball. The Sundevils would eventually find its rhythm, putting up two touchdowns in the second quarter and going into the half with a 14-point lead.

ASU quarterback Jeff Sims came into the game and busted open an 88-yard touchdown run in the third quarter; he would have a total of 288 rushing yards in this game. At this time that gave the Sundevils a 24-16 lead over the Cyclones.

This was a cleaner game for Arizona State, less penalties and better ball control. Improvement in discipline was the main focus for the Sundevils Coaching staff as a whole entering the game.

Allowing Sims to be a dual threat, on the ground with his legs and through the air with his arm, is what opened this game wide open for the Sundevils. Jefferson Sims came up in multiple situations as clutch, and creative playmaker.

Arizona State was in need of a win on the road. This shows they can win close games and finish plays. Look for quarteback Jeff Sims to start for the Sundevils moving forward, keeping the dual threat momentum going would complement a growing defensive unit who need more time off the field.

The Sundevils are now going into a bye week in which they hope to regroup and be ready for another Big12 opponent at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

A close win against Iowa State is definitely not going to shoot the Sundevils back into the rankings, but if they can keep up the momentum and win out the rest of the season, we should see them breaking top-25.
