A statement was made by Sundevils to the Big 12 - they are not going away quietly.

Arizona State University kept their Big 12 championship hopes alive with a nail-biting victory at home against the Mountaineers. The 25-23 win was a statement game for the Sundevils.

With multiple stops at the goal-line, a great fourth down stop and to secure the game, the Sundevils defense got an interception during West Virginia's final possession. Arizona State defense showed they are not done yet and have a ton of fight left in them.

The Mountaineers had multiple chances to score but kept going for it on 4th down and falling short. West Virginia attempted to run the ball 38 times but were held to 68 yards, which is significant considering their average rushing yards per game is 182 yards.

With this loss to the Arizona State the Mountaineers have been taken out of bowl contention. Putting their record at four wins and seven loses overall and two wins and six loses in the Big 12 conference.

Jeff Sims, ASU quarterback had a productive game going 19-of-28 for 207 passing yards, with three total touchdowns and all came in the second quarter.

Arizona State was down 22-23 when kicker Jesus Gomez kicked a 49-yard field goal to give the Sundevils the lead.

West Virginia got the ball back with 2:44 left in the fourth quarter. That is when the Arizona State defense made the most impactful play of the game when they picked off the Mountaineer quarterback.

A homecoming night victory at Mountain America Stadium, giving the Sundevils the momentum they need to carry them to a division title game.

The Sundevils improved their conference record to five wins and only two loses in the Big 12 conference and now have seven wins and three loses overall.

With only two games remaining on the schedule, next up is travel to Colorado, then ending the season with a sibling Rivalry matchup with Arizona. If the Sun Devils can finish these two games with victories, we could see them in the Big 12 title game.
