The No. 20 Auburn Tigers picked up a convincing win over the Wofford Terriers at home on Tuesday night, but now shift their attention to a significantly more difficult opponent, the No. 1 Houston Cougars.
Finding a way to come down with rebounds will be a must do for the Tigers if they want to have a chance of pulling off the upset.
“All week, we just have been prepping on getting to the rim," said forward Elyjah Freeman. "Just attacking their bigs and drop. I’m just trying to get our team going off the rip. That’s why I just try to get to the rim as early as possible.”
Getting the job done on the glass has not been the only struggle for the Tigers, as their defensive performance has not been where they would like it to be yet this season.
Despite having struggles to keep opponents from putting points on the board in their early contests, improving in this area is another focus for the Tigers, and they are doing everything possible to help deliver better results on that end of the floor.
“We've just been prepping, just trying to talk," Freeman said. "Just really trying to guard. That’s really been our biggest thing all year so far, just trying to guard because we know who we got the rest of the schedule. We’re really just trying to work on guarding our matchups and being able to play one-on-one, and being able to play off ball. That’s really just been an emphasis so far."
Freeman is not the only member of the Tigers focused on helping bring better results on the glass.
“That’s the separator in what we talk about that wins games," said forward Kevin Overton. "Up until this point, we’re just trying to prepare for better teams in different situations and get better since we started against Oklahoma State.”
