After dropping its three opening contests in SEC play, Auburn has been knocked off by No. 16 Missouri at home.

AUBURN – After having a less than ideal start to the SEC portion of their schedule, the Auburn Tigers have still been unable to find their way back into the win column, falling 23-17 at the hands of No. 16 Missouri Tigers in two overtimes at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Auburn wasted no time finding its way on to the scoreboard, as a one-yard touchdown run by Jackson Arnold capped off a 12-play drive that spanned 75 yards out of the gate.

Arnold finished the game 18-of-30 passing for 207 yards. He added 14 on the ground. Cam Coleman accounted for 108 of those yards on the receiving end, leading the home Tigers in that area.

Despite their quick offensive start, the Tigers failed to put any more points on the board during the first half.

Additionally, Arnold threw his first interception of the season on the possession that followed, putting Missouri in position to put points on the board for the first time.

Missouri put a field goal on the board in the first quarter and added a touchdown in the second after a nine-play, 65-yard drive was highlighted by a two-yard run by Ahmad Hardy, giving the visiting Tigers a 10-7 lead at the half.

Following a late touchdown run in the third quarter by Omar Mabson II and a 22-yard field goal by Alex McPherson, Auburn was in possession of a 17-10 lead with 10:31 left in the game.

The teams traded punts, then Missouri drove down the field, aided by a pair of untimely penalties on Auburn’s defense, covering 60 yards in five plays, setting Hardy up for his second scoring carry of the night, evening the score at 17 with 5:07 left in the game.

Auburn looked primed to respond as soon as it got the ball back. Arnold connected with Perry Thompson, who caught four passes for 60 yards, picking up 34 yards through the air. Arnold found a wide-open Preston Howard on third-and-nine, but the ball fell through his hands, leading to a punt.

Auburn’s defense held strong, and despite allowing Missouri to put together an extensive drive, a Jay Crawford interception on third-and-28 prevented the visitors from getting on the board, leading to overtime with the game tied at 17.

Auburn’s first overtime possession lost seven yards and ended with a 50-yard field goal attempt by McPherson that fell well short.

Missouri had field goal trouble of its own to end its first possession of overtime, as Robert Meyer missed what would have been the game-winning field goal attempt.

The road Tigers capitalized during their second possession of overtime, however, as Beau Pribula forced the ball into the end zone on the ground. The two-point conversion attempt that followed was unsuccessful, leaving Missouri with a 23-17 advantage.

Auburn’s final possession was over after four plays, finalizing Missouri’s win.

After a two-week home stand, Auburn (3-4 0-4 SEC) hits the road again next week for a meeting with the Arkansas Razorbacks (2-5, 0-3 SEC). Kickoff is set for 11:45 a.m. CT, and SEC Network will carry the broadcast.
