Auburn hosts LSU in a pivotal 2026 SEC showdown at Jordan-Hare Stadium. We preview Alex Golesh vs. Lane Kiffin, Byrum Brown vs. Sam Leavitt, key matchups, SEC title implications, and why this could be Auburn's biggest upset opportunity.

The Auburn Tigers football season can't come soon enough.

As exciting as the offseason has been on the Plains with the arrival of Alex Golesh as head coach, multiple big time transfers from the portal, and the momentum growing from the upcoming 2027 recruiting class, nothing beats the opening kickoff.

As we patiently wait for September 5 to roll around, Auburn Roundtable has launched an Offseason Opponent Preview for the Tigers upcoming season. Over the next few weeks, we will break down each one of Auburn's games on the schedule.

Let's get to it.

Week 8: October 24, 2026, 11 AM CDT

Auburn vs. LSU

Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, Alabama

The tough stretch of the season continues as the Auburn Tigers host the LSU Tigers in an SEC showdown that could be very important to the entire SEC.

Past History with LSU: The LSU Tigers have won the last two contests against Auburn, with the most recent game taking place in 2023. LSU took down Auburn in Baton Rouge 48-18. LSU holds the all-time record against Auburn 30-24-1 dating back to 1901.

LSU Snapshot: The most offseason drama certainly belonged to LSU this past winter as Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss before coaching in the College Football Playoffs to take the job in Baton Rouge. He has completely revamped the roster and added a ton of talent via the transfer portal, making them a top contender in the SEC, even in his first year in the program. The talent will have to gel, however, and although they play Auburn later in the year, they might hit a few bumps along the way before getting to The Plains.

Key Matchups: There is plenty of hype surrounding transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt to LSU after playing a few seasons with Arizona State. He helped the Sun Devils reach the College Football Playoffs in 2024 and is now looking to boost his NFL draft stock. Like LSU, Auburn is also high on their transfer signal caller Bryum Brown. Both possess dual-threat abilities, and it will be fascinating to see which player comes out successful.

Interesting Storyline to Watch: Auburn might be catching LSU at the best time to complete the upset. The home game for the Tigers will be LSU's final game of a brutal eight week stretch without a single bye week which began with the first game of the season against Clemson. If they are limping into the final game before their timely week off, Golesh could capitalize.

Game Importance Ranking: When taking the 12 game schedule as a whole, this feels like the 5th most important game of the season. I put this one just ahead of the Georgia game because I believe it is more winnable than the one in Athens. If Golesh can complete an upset against Lane Kiffin in front of the Auburn faithful, it would certainly go a long way.

What's Next: The Auburn Tigers will hit the road once more as they will travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss on October 31.
