Kayin Lee, Auburn secondary 'doing our job' cover image

It's no secret Auburn's secondary didn't have the outing it wanted in the season opener against Baylor, as the Bears finished with 419 passing yards.

Despite the step down in competition, the Tigers limited Ball State to 71 yards through the air.

"I think it was really on us. Last week, we went into the week and emphasized tackling, emphasized thudding and wrapping up," said cornerback Kayin Lee. "That was big going into last week. We're doing the same thing this week to prepare ourselves."

As the competition gets better, Lee understands the importance of maintaining that focus and continuing to get better as a unit, also remembering not to take anything for granted.

Lee knows that if the secondary, as well as the rest of the team, remains focused, it will have be in a good position to get the job done against South Alabama on Saturday.

"A lot of shots, a lot of motion from the in-line tight end, out-of-line tight end on slips, sliders," Lee said. "I feel like going into this week, it's us doing our job, focusing on what we do best, not them. Just going out there and doing our job."

Now in his junior year, Lee is expected to be a leader for Auburn defensively, both on and off the field. It is a responsibility he's taking seriously.

With that, he is committed to constant improvement and helping Auburn's secondary reach its full potential each time it takes the field.

"I feel like it could always be better," Lee said. "I feel like I can work on my technique some more, being more focused. That's one thing I want to focus on more this week."

While helping the secondary get where it needs to be is Lee's biggest focus ahead of each game, he doesn't take the front seven for granted. The guys up front help the defensive backs do their job.

"That D-line, that means the world to me," Lee said. "There's nothing like playing with a great D-line. They make our job easier. It's like PB and J, it all goes together."

Lee and the Auburn defense will attempt to hold another team out of the end zone on Saturday when the Tigers host South Alabama at 11:45 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
