
Auburn is heading to Indianapolis after beating Nevada.
After they found a way to hold off the Nevada Wolfpack at home inside Neville Arena on Wednesday, March 25, the Auburn Tigers have punched their ticket ti Indianapolis for the semifinals of the NIT Tournament.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Tigers found themselves on the right end of a 75-69 final score.
Auburn was in the driver's seat of this contest from the moment it tipped off. Nevada was the first team to put points on the scoreboard as the Wolfpack put a lay-up through the net less than a minute after the contest started.
Auburn built its lead as high as 16 points, and when the first half came to an end and the teams returned to the locker rooms, the Tigers were up 12.
The second half was more of the same, as Auburn's lead hovered around that point. Nevada slowly trimmed away at the deficit throughout the second half, and brought the game within six points.
It ended up not mattering, as Auburn overcame the late push and found a way to come out on top.
The Tigers benefited from a by-committee approach to putting points on the board. Filip Jovic led the way with 18 points, Tahaad Pettiford had 16, Elyjah Freeman had 15 and Keyshawn Hall had 15.
Additionally, Jovic led the way for Auburn on the glass with nine rebounds. Pettiford lead the team in assists with six.
The Tigers had a good shooting night as a unit. They finished the game 30-of-61, 49.2%, from the field, 6-of-24, 25%, from 3-point range and 9-of-14, 64.3%, from the free-throw line.
While Auburn still has more basketball to play, its action at Neville Arena has come to an end for the season.
The Tigers will take on Illinois State in the NIT semifinals inside Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday, April 2 at 9:30 p.m. ESPN will carry the television broadcast.
