Auburn basketball landed four-star 2027 power forward Davis Cochran, giving Steven Pearl another major recruiting win. The 6-foot-9 prospect chose the Tigers over Tennessee and Vanderbilt, joining four-star guard Jason Gardner Jr. in Auburn's top-five 2027 recruiting class.
Steven Pearl and the Auburn Tigers have landed a huge four-star recruit for the 2027 class.
The men's basketball team continues to rebuild as they look to return to the tournament in 2026 after winning the NIT championship last season. However, they are also looking beyond this upcoming year with big additions to the 2027 class, as 6'9" senior Davis Cochran, a four-star power forward out of Brentwood High School in Tennessee, has committed to play on the Plains.
Cochran chose Auburn over a few other SEC schools, such as Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He also held offers from Clemson, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Kansas State, Virginia, and other top programs in the country.
Following his commitment, Cochran discussed with Rivals why he chose Auburn. "It felt like home. It had the best fit for me on and off the court. My relationship with the staff is great. They have been together for a while now, so it made it easy to fit right in."
The high school senior currently sits just outside the top 100 in the 2027 class, according to Rivals. He is the 104th overall recruit and 15th-best power forward, according to their rankings.
Auburn entered the race late for Cochran, as they only offered him a scholarship just a few months ago, on August 24. He quickly took an official visit on September 4 before committing on Tuesday.
During his junior year at Brentwood Academy, he helped lead his team to a 30-4 record as well as a regional championship. Cochran averaged a double-double per game, with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 2 assists per game during that breakout year.
Pearl and the rest of the Auburn coaching staff now have two commitments towards the 2027 class, as Cochran will now join four-star guard Jason Gardner Jr. as two potential stars for the squad. With the commitment, the Tigers are now seen to have the fifth-best recruiting class in the country, according to 247 Sports.
The news arrives as the men's basketball season is about to ramp up in just over a week. The team will play its first exhibition game in Birmingham at Boutwell Auditorium next Wednesday, October 14, against Florida State. The team's first regular-season game will be Wednesday, November 4th, in Neville Arena against Southeastern Louisiana.
