For the first time since 2021, the Auburn Tigers will not be participating in March Madness.

The news that the Auburn Tigers felt like was on the way came on the afternoon of Sunday, March 15, as the NCAA Tournament field was confirmed, and they were not included among the 68 teams who made the cut.

The Tigers have been a bubble team since the middle of February, and brackets have had them fluctuating between the last four in and the first four out for the majority of that time.

When it was all said and done, Auburn was included in the first four out along with the Oklahoma Sooners, the San Diego State Aztecs and the Indiana Hoosiers.

Auburn finished No. 38 in the NET, Oklahoma finished No. 48, San Diego State finished No. 47 and Indiana finished No. 41.

Auburn beat the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 28 to extend its winning streak to four games after beating the Florida Gators on the road for its signature win of the season.

From that point forward, Auburn dropped seven of its next eight contests. When the regular season came to a close, the Tigers had a 16-15 record to their name and ended conference play 7-11.

All was not lost for the Tigers, however, as a solid showing in the SEC Tournament could have put them over the hump.

Auburn beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 79-61 in the first round, advancing to the second round to face off against the Tennessee Volunteers.

It had a chance to earn a victory in that game, and that win likely would have been all it needed to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Auburn had a double-digit lead in the second half of that contest, but an extensive run from the Volunteers led to a loss for the Tigers and ended up being the final nail in their coffin for the 2025-26 season.

It has not been announced if Auburn will accept a bid to a different postseason tournament.
