Auburn's season has not yet come to an end.
It wasn't the prettiest game they have played this year and the final score was closer than they would have anticipated, but the Auburn Tigers hosted Seattle U in the second round of the NIT Tournament at home inside Neville Arena on the afternoon of Sunday, March 22.
When the final buzzer sounded, Auburn found itself on the right end of a 91-85 final score that punched their ticket to the next round of the tournament.
The game was back-and-forth out of the gate, as neither side was able to build a lead higher than four points until 10:32 had ticked off the clock. The Tigers built momentum after taking a six-point lead at that point, and had built it up to 11 when the teams returned to the locker room following the conclusion of the first half.
The beginning of the second half was more of the same, but Seattle U did go on a run that trimmed Auburn's lead to as low as four points with six seconds remaining in the contest.
The Tigers held off the late push, however, and they still have basketball left to play as a result.
Auburn was led offensively by Kevin Overton and Elyjah Freeman, who recorded 23 and 19 points, respectively. Keyshawn Hall led the team in both rebounds and assists, as he had accumulated 15 and five, respectively, by the time the game had come to an end.
Auburn shots 29-of-58, 50%, from the field, 9-of-26, 34.6%, from 3-point range and 24-of-32, 75%, from the free-throw line.
The Tigers will take on Nevada in the NIT Tournament Quarterfinals. The Wolfpack picked up a 73-63 win over the Liberty Flames in the second round on the tournament on Saturday night.
A date and time for the matchup between Auburn and Nevada has not yet been determined.
