Auburn Football Injury Update: Two Defenders Out, Others Must Step Up
Nov 7, 2026 12:36 PM

Auburn football will be without linebacker Bryce Deas and safety Sylvester Smith-Reed against Arkansas, creating defensive challenges for Alex Golesh and DJ Durkin. Blake Woodby and De'Marcus Riddick could see expanded roles as the Tigers look to secure their fifth win of the season.

The Auburn Tigers will be without two key defenders on Saturday as they look to get back in the win column against the Arkansas Razorbacks at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

According to Friday's availability report, both linebacker Bryce Deas and safety Sylvester Smith-Reed will be out for the Tigers 9th game of the season.

Smith-Reed was injured in last week's disappointing loss to Ole Miss. He was listed as questionable on Thursday's report but couldn't make the right strides to be game-day ready for Saturday's SEC matchup.

As for Deas, the injury news comes as a bit of a shock, as his name did not appear on any availability report leading into the week. It is believed that Deas got injured in practice over the last 24 hours and initial findings are suggesting that the timeline for his return is still up in the air.

This now leaves Alex Golesh and defensive coordinator DJ Durkin with some big decisions to make entering Saturday's contest, and a few players need to step up in a massive way.

One player who could see an increased role is sophomore defensive back, Blake Woodby.

Woodby has already received opportunities in Auburn's secondary this season, but with Smith-Reed unavailable, the Tigers could need even more from the young defensive back.

Auburn has struggled defensively over the last two weeks, particularly when it comes to defending the passing game.

And with Smith-Reed unavailable, Woodby could have an opportunity to prove he's capable of taking on a bigger role.

Another player who could be in line for additional playing time is linebacker De'Marcus Riddick.

Riddick has already been involved in Auburn's defensive rotation, but Deas' absence could create an opportunity for him to see significantly more snaps.

And considering what Riddick has shown throughout his Auburn career, there's reason to believe he can handle that responsibility.

Riddick brings athleticism and versatility to Auburn's linebacker room, and his ability to pursue the quarterback could be particularly valuable against Arkansas.

Golesh has already discussed the importance of getting more defensive players involved to prevent his starters from wearing down late in games.

Now, with two key defenders unavailable, Auburn might not have much of a choice.

And if the Tigers are going to get back in the win column Saturday, they'll need players like Woodby and Riddick to make the most of their opportunities.

A win would secure Auburn's 5th win of the season and likely set them up to reach their first bowl-eligible season since 2023. Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 11:45 AM CT and is available on SEC Network.
