Auburn has its quarterback for the 2028 recruiting class. Three-star Sam Sollie committed to Alex Golesh and the Tigers, giving Auburn an early centerpiece at the position as the coaching staff continues building its future on the Plains.
The Auburn Tigers have their quarterback for the 2028 recruiting class.
Sam Sollie, a three-star quarterback out of Gadsden City High School, announced his commitment to Auburn on Saturday, giving Alex Golesh and his staff their first commitment of the 2028 cycle.
Sollie is considered the 40th best quarterback in the class and the 20th best player in the state of Alabama, per 247Sports.
This past year, he transferred into Gadsden City after playing his freshman season at Westbrook Christian School. In 2025, he became the team's starting quarterback halfway through the season and posted some impressive numbers for a sophomore. He went 7-2 as a starter, throwing for over 1,300 yards and an impressive 13 touchdowns to only one interception.
Sollie holds multiple offers from SEC schools, including Florida, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Alabama.
And if you're going to start building a recruiting class somewhere, quarterback is a pretty good place to start. Sollie made four trips to the Plains dating back to 2025, more than any other program among his finalists.
Now Auburn gets an early commitment from a quarterback, and regardless of industry rankings, they believe in their development at the position.
Sollie is listed at 6-foot-3 and around 190 pounds, and there is still plenty of development ahead considering he hasn't even played his junior season yet. But the traits are already there.
During a recent workout in Birmingham, Chad Simmons of Rivals praised Sollie's accuracy, ability to hit deep throws into tight windows, and anticipation as a passer.
Auburn isn't necessarily chasing rankings here. They're evaluating traits and finding quarterbacks they believe fit what Golesh and Joel Gordon want offensively.
We saw something similar after Auburn missed on its original quarterback plans for 2027 and eventually landed Gary Chatman Jr. Now they've identified Sollie early and aren't waiting around to make him the centerpiece of 2028.
There are certainly big question marks surrounding the program at the quarterback position following the 2026 season. Once Byrum Brown runs out of eligibility, it appears that Golesh and the rest of his staff are going to check every box possible in bringing in players to compete with certain quarterbacks already on the roster: a quarterback in the 2027 class and now one for 2028. Assuming Auburn also chases a signal caller in the transfer portal, there will be multiple options to determine next year's starter and beyond.
As for Sollie, he has made it. It is pretty clear how strongly he feels about Auburn, previously saying, "I want to be an Auburn Tiger."
Now he is one.
And with the quarterback already in the boat, Auburn can begin building the rest of its 2028 class around him.
