It’s a massive weekend for Auburn as the Tigers host one of their biggest recruiting events of the Alex Golesh era while also opening NCAA Regional play at Plainsman Park. With major targets like Isaac McNeil and Nash Johnson III on campus, plus postseason baseball underway, momentum is building.
It’s a huge weekend on the Plains for the Auburn Tigers.
Alex Golesh and his staff arguably have their most important recruiting weekend thus far, as well as the NCAA Regionals begin for baseball. The staff gives their thoughts on the busy events.
1) What are your expectations for Auburn baseball in the regional this weekend?
Michael Brauner: Auburn should handle Milwaukee on Friday afternoon with ease before taking on either NC State or UCF on Saturday. I expect the Tigers to cruise this weekend at Plainsman Park and get set to host another super regional.
Christian Rauh: They should handle this region with ease. My biggest question will be how they handle the pitching staff. Will they decide to go with a mid-week starter and save some of their stronger arms? Regardless, I think Auburn will be quite successful at Plainsman Park.
2) Which visitor this weekend stands out the most to you?
MB: For me, it has to be Isaac McNeil. Given the Tigers are battling their biggest rivals in Alabama and Georgia for his signature, and he’s an in-state product who could make a huge impact right out of the gate, all eyes will be on McNeil’s decision coming up here on June 2.
CR: Give me a guy like Nash Johnson III. Although plenty of eyes will be on five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, I really like Johnson's game. He may only be a three-star recruit, but like many of the prospects Golesh has added in this class, I think he could be a "diamond in the rough." Plus, if he decides to commit after decommitting from Alabama, that is always a win.
3) Give me the name of an Auburn wide receiver who’s flying under the radar this offseason.
MB: I think the obvious answer here is Bryce Cain. Coming out of Baker High School in Mobile, Cain was not a very experienced football player after beginning his career in high school, and earned offers based on his off-the-charts speed. With only six catches in his career, he was always going to be a project, so perhaps this is the year he can unlock something.
CR: Christian Neptune, I believe, is going to have a breakout season for Auburn in 2026. There were moments last year, in his true freshman season, when he really stood out, some against top competition like Florida and Miami while with USF. He's coming off his career-best game of 102 receiving yards in the Cure Bowl against Old Dominion. I think he continues that momentum right off the bat in week one against the Baylor Bears.
