Auburn Baseball is officially headed back to the NCAA Tournament and will host a regional at Plainsman Park for the first time since 2022. The Tigers earned one of the nation’s top seeds after posting the No. 1 strength of schedule and will face Milwaukee, NC State, and UCF in the Auburn Regional.
The regionals for the Auburn Tigers baseball team are officially set.
During Monday's selection show, the Auburn Tigers were officially selected to host a regional at Plainsman Park, aiming to return to Omaha for the first time since 2022.
Auburn had one of the most impressive resumes in all of college baseball this season. The team finished with the highest strength of schedule in the country and the third-best RPI. Their 38-19 record looks impressive on its own, but especially when 17 of those wins came against quad one opponents.
The Tigers were matched up with an interesting regional draw as UCF, NC State, and Milwaukee will head to Plainsman Park.
UCF Knights made the tournament as an at-large bid coming out of the Big 12. They finished the season 31-21 with a 19-11 conference record. They finished 21st in the country with strength of schedule and 36th in RPI.
NC State may be one of the most controversial picks across the entire NCAA tournament, as they were one of the final selections added to the field. The team had a 51st-ranked RPI and a 34th-best strength of schedule on the season, after being an at-large bid in the ACC. If you believe in emotional or sentimental decisions from the committee, one thing might have gone in NC State's favor. Longtime head coach Elliot Avent announced his retirement earlier this week at the conclusion of the Wolfpack season.
Milwaukee will be the first team Auburn faces on Friday in the Regionals, and it'll be the Panthers' first tournament appearance in 16 years. They won the Auto bid in the Horizon League and will appear at Plainsman Park after posting a losing season record of 25-31. They have an RPI of 238 and a strength of schedule of 278 out of the 308 eligible teams.
Auburn will be back in action against Milwaukee on Friday at noon Central Time. The team will need to pick up three wins to move on to Super Regionals.
