Auburn landed its first commitment of Big Cat Weekend as 2027 linebacker Kareem Palmer pledged to Alex Golesh and the Tigers. The 3-star Georgia prospect becomes the seventh member of Auburn’s growing 2027 recruiting class and another key addition to DJ Durkin’s future defense.

The successful tradition that has hit The Plains since 2009 strikes again on Saturday. This time, the first time for new head coach Alex Golesh.

It was announced Sunday following Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend that linebacker Kareem Palmer has committed to the Tigers. The Lyons, Georgia, native will join Golesh’s 2027 recruiting class. According to 247Sports, Palmer is a 3-Star prospect, the 41st best linebacker in the country, and the 57th overall player coming out of the State of Georgia.

Palmer was offered by Auburn in late December 2025 and is scheduled to take his official visit, other than Big Cat Weekend, on June 19-21.

Earlier this month, he told Auburn Tigers on SI about his interest in joining DJ Durkin’s defense. “Auburn feels real. It’s not just hype; it’s a place where you either rise or get exposed, and I respect that. They’re in a strong spot, but nobody’s safe. I’m letting consistency decide everything. I’m definitely planning to get down there. I want to feel the environment for myself.”

His commitment moves Auburn’s 2027 class to seven, fourth from Georgia, but only the second defensive player to plan to play for the Tigers next season. He joins 4-Star running back Myson Johson-Cook, 4-Star defensive lineman Donivan Moore, 4-Star tight end George Lamons Jr., 4-star wide receiver Brylan Oduor, 3-star offensive lineman Jaylon Moore, and 3-star quarterback Gary Chatman Jr.

It is not expected to be a busy Big Cat Weekend on the commitment front, as this event was moved up from late July due to NCAA rules making that month a dead period for recruiting, but it is still a huge win for Alex Golesh and staff.
