Is it possible for Auburn basketball to beat Alabama? cover image

Auburn has its biggest SEC game so far this season on Saturday. Do the Tigers have a chance to pull off a win?

Conference play has been a roller coaster for the Auburn Tigers so far.

They have picked up wins over teams such as Arkansas and Florida, but also have ended up dropping games against teams like Texas A&M and Missouri in disappointing fashion.

None of the games that have previously appeared on the slate matter as much as the one that's coming up on Saturday, however.

The Tigers host the Alabama Crimson Tide, a team that has been ranked in the AP Poll throughout the season, but they were removed after taking a road loss to Florida on Sunday, the same team Auburn beat on the round a little over a week ago.

While things have not always gone according to plan for Auburn this season, there is no reason why they aren't capable of picking up this win over its biggest rival.

Labaron Philon, who leads the Crimson Tide in points and assists with 21.6 and five, respectively, is a highly-skilled guard that Auburn knows well. He was committed to the Tigers previously, but ultimately ended up taking his talents to Tuscaloosa to suit up for the Crimson Tide.

If Auburn can find a way to limit Philon's productivity, its chances of finding a way to come out on top and add a tally to the win column drastically increase.

The biggest thing for Auburn on the offensive end of the floor will be taking care of the ball. Turnovers have popped up as a struggle for this Auburn team at times this season, but if they can't take care of the ball against Alabama, it'll be in trouble.

Auburn has a chance to earn another statement victory, and it would be a significant conference boost for them if the Tigers won.

It's certainly possible, as long as Auburn can slow Philon down and take care of the ball.
