Oct 26, 2026 6:39 AM

Auburn head coach Alex Golesh took responsibility for the Tigers' offensive struggles following a 38-17 loss to LSU. After allowing 552 yards and struggling with missed tackles, Auburn must regroup from its disappointing performance before facing Ole Miss in a crucial SEC road matchup.

The Auburn Tigers couldn't build on its upset victory over No. 1 Georgia, falling to LSU 38-17 at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers struggled on both sides of the football, allowing 552 total yards while managing just 271 offensively.

Following the loss, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh met with the media to discuss what went wrong.

Here are the three biggest takeaways on his thoughts from his press conference.

Golesh takes responsibility for Auburn's offensive struggles

Auburn's offense looked completely different from the unit that knocked off Georgia a week ago.

The Tigers struggled to establish the running game, couldn't protect Byrum Brown and punted seven times.

Golesh acknowledged that the offensive game plan wasn't good enough.

"We didn't find enough creative ways to be able to generate run game," Golesh said. "And kind of goes back to we've got to be really, really, really strategic in how we generate run game."

Auburn finished with just 67 rushing yards after finding success on the ground against Georgia.

And Golesh wasn't interested in making excuses.

"I'll own 100% of the plan wasn't good enough," Golesh said.

Auburn's secondary couldn't tackle

Auburn's defense had arguably its worst performance of the season against LSU.

Sam Leavitt threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns, consistently finding open receivers throughout the contest.

But Golesh pointed to missed tackles as one of the biggest problems.

"And so now those fours and fives turn into nines and tens," Golesh said.

That's important because LSU consistently turned short completions into bigger gains, making it difficult for Auburn to get off the field.

The Tigers also struggled to prevent explosive plays, including Jackson Harris' 70-yard touchdown reception.

Auburn has to find a way to respond

Auburn went from arguably its biggest victory in years to one of its most disappointing performances of the season.

And Golesh made it clear that Saturday's loss wasn't acceptable.

"There's no silver lining. There's no anything. That was bad in every imaginable way," Golesh said.

The Tigers now sit at 4-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play, with a difficult road matchup against Ole Miss coming next.

Golesh emphasized that his team can't spend the entire week dwelling on the loss.

"We've had the highs of highs so far, and that would be the low of lows," Golesh said.

Auburn has already shown it can compete with the best teams in college football.

But Saturday showed just how much work remains before the Tigers can do it consistently.
