The Auburn Tigers have successfully competed at SEC Media Days and are now just a few weeks away from Fall Camp. Alex Golesh has one more thing under his belt as the new head coach of the Tigers before opening kickoff on September 5th against the Baylor Bears.
On this week's Auburn Roundtable, the staff discusses their overall thoughts on how the Tigers handled the stage in Tampa, Florida.
How do you think Alex Golesh handled his first SEC Media Days as Auburn's head coach?
Zac Blackerby: I think Golesh did everything he needed to do. He didn't make any dramatic statements and portrayed Auburn in a way that showed the coach is serious about the program again. It was a nice change.
Christian Rauh: I'm a big fan of how Alex Golesh handled SEC Media Days. I wasn't sure what to expect after him being more humble this past spring in Destin, but he was nothing but business in Tampa. Focusing on creating identity and giving no team bulletin board material was exactly what was needed. I'm very excited for the season.
Which player that brought along with him impressed you the most and why?
ZB: It's Byrum. I knew less about Champ, and I thought he was great. And so was McPherson. But Byrum took over every stage he was on.
CR: Hard to disagree there; Byrum Brown was infectious. However, I really love how Alex McPherson handled the questions regarding all the things he had to overcome. He is a class act. Glad he's playing for this team.
What was the most fascinating thing you heard from ANY question asked at Media Days?
ZB: I'll go with Golesh's quote discussing how he doesn't set goals, he sets standards. I think it sends a message that Auburn will care about details again.
CR: Has to be what Alex Golesh said about Byrum Brown. Without hesitation, he let the world know that he truly believes Brown is one of the best quarterbacks in college football. That's high praise and should put the rest of the conference on notice.
