Auburn is just 15 days away from kicking off the Alex Golesh era against Baylor. The Auburn Roundtable breaks down the Tigers’ improved second scrimmage, the impact of JJ Faulk’s potential season-ending injury, Bryce Cain’s move to cornerback and the biggest winners of fall camp.

The Auburn Tigers are 15 days away from their first game of the season.

As fall camp begins to come to an end, head coach Alex Golesh has seemed to change his tune on his overall feelings about the roster.

On this week’s Auburn Roundtable, the staff discusses their thoughts on the team as they prepare for the Baylor Bears.

Overall thoughts following Auburn’s Second scrimmage this week?

Zac Blackerby: I think Auburn fans should feel good about this week of fall camp. Heard good things about Byrum Brown and several of the receivers. As well as a clearer picture of the offensive line.

Christian Rauh: Moving on from the “sloppy” phase of things is always a good sign. The coaching staff seems much more confident in this group, and plenty of players are starting to step up and make a name for themselves.

JJ Faulk is potentially out for the season; how big of an impact will that be for Auburn?

Zac Blackerby: A big question I had was who can be that third key pass rusher for Auburn this season. I thought JJ Faulk had a shot. I hate it for the kid who has been working his tail off. Chris Murray becomes very important for the Tigers.

Christian Rauh: I think this is certainly big. He certainly was in the two-deep for Auburn; now they will likely need to be more top-heavy in the rotation. They also might need to be creative and play some other playmakers at the position as well.

What are your thoughts regarding Bryce Cain moving to cornerback?

Zac Blackerby: His path to playing time was tough at slot. It will be tough at corner too. His teammates shouted him out earlier in the week. Hopefully he gets it going there.

Christian Rauh: It appears to be the right decision from all early indications, but he’s going from one deep position group to another. I still have some concerns about whether he will be able to find the field. He is a very talented athlete too. Could be an early warning that he might hit the transfer portal next season.

Biggest winner of fall camp so far? Why?

Zac Blackerby: I’ll go with Deshawn Spencer at slot. If he’s not a “starter,” he seems to be clearly in the starting four receivers. I think he’s in a prime spot to make noise as a freshman.

Christian Rauh: I’m going with linebacker Bryce Deas. Over the last two weeks, he has been one of the players who has received the most praise. He has shown his versatility and made havoc while doing it. He could be one of the most underrated players on the roster.
