While Saturday's contest between Auburn and Georgia didn't have the ending the Tigers were hoping for, one member of the top had one of his frist chances to show what he could do.
Sophomore wide receiver Perry Thompson, who did not see the field much last season after coming in as a highly-rated prospect, made two catches for 18 yards, one of them for 11 yards and a first down.
Having the chance to make some plays was not an opportunity Thompson took for granted.
"I feel like it was pretty big just showcasing and showing everybody what I can do on the field because I haven't really been able to show people what I can do -- but in practice but besides game time, not really," Thompson said. "Felt pretty good out there. Felt good also playing against a first round, first rounder guy out there at cornerback and be able to get separation and compete with him all game."
Thompson is still working to grow as a player as he takes on a bigger role within the offense.
"Right now, really, just all my fundamentals and stuff because I always have the size, the speed, and it was more of just crafting everything down and knowing how to get the DB to flip his hips and just knowing leverage and everything," Thompson said.
Thompson elaborated on what he thought went wrong for the Tigers in the second half after having a strong start to the game.
"Just not really executing like we did in the first half," Thompson said. "I feel like in the first half, we was like just on their necks like everybody playing physical, everybody knowing what to do and executing it well. I feel like in the second half we came out and we kind of let up a little bit. Just got a good feeling going into halftime, and we wasn't really as aggressive as we were in the first half."
Thompson will aim to be a part of turning the Tigers around on the offensive side of the ball.
