Auburn football looks to rebound against Ole Miss after a disappointing loss to LSU. Byrum Brown, Jeremiah Cobb, Elijah Melendez, Andre Jordan Jr. and Cole Best are five key players who must step up for Alex Golesh's Tigers to pull off another SEC road upset in Oxford.
The Auburn Tigers are coming off a disappointing loss to LSU this past weekend, and things won't get much easier as they prepare to take on Ole Miss in Oxford on Saturday.
Alex Golesh's team struggled on both sides of the football against LSU, but Auburn has already shown it can pull off a major upset with its victory over Georgia.
If the Tigers want to do it again, several players will need to step up.
Here are five Auburn players who could make a major difference against Ole Miss.
Byrum Brown
Auburn's quarterback struggled against LSU, throwing for just 160 yards while the Tigers allowed seven sacks.
Brown needs to make quicker decisions and avoid holding onto the football too long.
Ole Miss has struggled defensively this season, especially against the run, which could give Brown opportunities to make plays with his legs.
If Auburn wants to win, Brown needs to have one of his better performances.
Jeremiah Cobb
Auburn's running game was nearly nonexistent against LSU, as the Tigers finished with just 67 rushing yards.
However, Ole Miss ranks last in the SEC in rushing defense, allowing approximately 161 yards per game.
That presents a major opportunity for Cobb.
Auburn needs to establish the running game early, and Cobb will play an important role in making that happen.
If both Cobb and Brown get going in the ground game, it could be a recipe for success for Auburn.
Elijah Melendez
Auburn's defense struggled to contain Sam Leavitt against LSU, and now the Tigers face another dangerous quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss.
Melendez will need to help Auburn prevent Chambliss from escaping the pocket and picking up easy rushing yards.
The sophomore linebacker has already emerged as one of the most important players for DJ Durkin's defense and is named a captain every week.
Auburn will need him to step up on Saturday.
Andre Jordan Jr.
Auburn's secondary struggled in a big way against LSU, and Jordan was one of the players who had a difficult afternoon.
According to Pro Football Focus, Jordan allowed 10 receptions on all 10 targets he defended.
Ole Miss has talented receivers, including Deuce Alexander, who is coming off an 8-reception day against Texas last weekend and could create similar problems. Jordan needs to bounce back and help Auburn prevent another big passing performance.
Cole Best
Auburn's offensive line allowed seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss against LSU.
Best has remained Auburn's starting center, and the Tigers need him to help improve communication and execution up front. Auburn must give Brown more time to throw while creating opportunities in the running game.
If Best and the offensive line struggle again, pulling off another upset will be extremely difficult.
Auburn has already proven it can beat a more talented opponent when they took down Georgia, but these five players will need to deliver much better performances compared to last weekend's game if the Tigers want to leave Oxford with another major victory.
