Preview Auburn vs. Vanderbilt in the Tigers' 2026 SEC schedule. We break down Alex Golesh, Clark Lea, Jared Curtis, key matchups, series history, Homecoming at Jordan-Hare Stadium, predictions, and what this game means for Auburn's College Football Playoff hopes.

The Auburn Tigers football season can't come soon enough.

As exciting as the offseason has been on the Plains with the arrival of Alex Golesh as head coach, multiple big time transfers from the portal, and the momentum growing from the upcoming 2027 recruiting class, nothing beats the opening kickoff.

As we patiently wait for September 5 to roll around, Auburn Roundtable has launched an Offseason Opponent Preview for the Tigers upcoming season. Over the next few weeks, we will break down each one of Auburn's games on the schedule.

Let's get to it.

Week 4: September 26, 2026, Afternoon Time Window

Auburn vs. Vanderbilt (Homecoming)

Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, Alabama

Depending on how the week prior goes against Florida, this game could be seen as a bounce-back or as one that could move you to 4-0 on the season. Vanderbilt had Auburn's number under former head coach Hugh Freeze, so Alex Golesh has an early opportunity on the schedule to end that narrative quickly.

Past History with Vanderbilt: The Commodores have won the last two games of the series between Auburn, with the most recent coming last season when Vanderbilt defeated the Tigers 45-38 in Nashville. Vandy now owns the All-Time record against Auburn 23-22-1. Games have been recorded between these two programs dating back to 1893.

Vanderbilt Snapshot: Vandy head coach Clark Lea will look to continue raising the floor of a program that was a mainstay in the basement of the SEC standings before his arrival. He will have a tough task in making that a reality this season, however, as he is finally without longtime starter Diego Pavia at quarterback. Lea and staff will look to younger players to remain competitive in the conference.

Key Matchups: Vanderbilt will start true freshman Jared Curtis after Pavia's departure. The 5-star quarterback was the 2025 Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and will instantly be put in charge of leading a squad that had their first 10-win season in program history. This will be the SEC opener for Vanderbilt, and the biggest test Curtis will have leading up to this game will be NC State. He could have a very bad day against this Auburn defense.

Interesting Storyline to Watch: It will certainly be interesting to see how Coach Lea handles the likely adversity this season after losing players such as Pavia and Eli Stowers. They should be flirting with the possibility of being bowl-eligible this season, so that this game could have big implications.

Game Importance Ranking: When taking the 12 game schedule as a whole, this feels like the 7th most important game of the season. It's a chance to right the wrongs of the old coaching staff without question, but the majority of the other conference games on the schedule carry more weight for the Tigers.

What's Next: The Auburn Tigers will finally hit the road for a conference game in Knoxville, Tennessee against the Volunteers. The game at Neyland Stadium is currently scheduled in the flex window on September 26.
