Following another lackluster performance on the offensive side of the ball, uncertainty at the quarterback position played a role in the Auburn Tigers' 10-3 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats at Jordan-Hare Stadium. This was the least amount of points the Tigers have put on the board since 2021, and the fewest at home since Georgia shut them out in 2012.
Ashton Daniels made his first start as Auburn's (4-5, 1-5 SEC) quarterback, but after the Tigers only put three points on the board throughout the first three quarters, head coach Hugh Freeze made the decision to put Jackson Arnold in.
Kentucky (3-5, 1-5 SEC)) saw better quarterback play from Cutter Boley, who went 18-of-29 passing for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Wildcats found the scoreboard for the first time on their first drive of the second when Jacob Kauwe hit a 48-yard field goal attempt that capped off a nine-play, 44-yard drive.
The Tigers evened the score as the first half expired. Alex McPherson was successful on a 27-yard field goal attempt.
The goal line was crossed for the first time in the thrid quarter when Boley connected with Kendrick Law for a 13-yard scoring pass that extended Kentucky's lead to 10-3.
The sides then traded punts throughout the majority of the second half.
The Tigers appeard to have a chance to shift the momentum to their side with three minutes left in the game as AnQuon Fegans intercepted a pass from Boley.
Fegans was unable to hang on to the ball, however, and the fumble gave possession right back to Kentucky at its 38-yard line.
Daniels returned to the game after the Tigers got the ball back. Despite driving down the field, Daniels was sacked for a loss of 10 yards on the second-to-last play of the game, then threw an interception on the final play.
Daniels finished the game 13-of-28 passing for 108 yards and one interception. Arnold went 2-of-3 for 15 yards.
Jeremiah Cobb led Auburn's ground attack with 72 yards on 20 carries. Cam Coleman led the Tigers in receiving with 34 yards on five catches.
Auburn hits the road next week for a contest with the No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores (7-2, 3-2 SEC) at FirstBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, and SEC Network will carry the broadcast.
