The 2025 college football season has not been friendly to the Clemson Tigers. After beginning the year as one of the top national championship favorites in the country, the Tigers have been fighting simply to become bowl eligible.
While the season has not been a good one for Dabo Swinney and company, tonight was for Clemson.
From the very beginning of senior night, the Tigers were able to dominate the game. When all was said and done, Clemson came through with a 45-10 win over Furman to officially become bowl eligible.
Cade Klubnik, who played the final home game of his college football career, completed nine of his 15 pass attempts for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Behind him, three other quarterbacks were able to see the field as well.
Swinney played Christopher Vizzina, who completed nine of 15 passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, Chris Denson (4-for-4, 22 yards, TD), and Trent Pearman (1-for-2, 4 yards).
In the second quarter, Swinney called a timeout to take Klubnik out of the game. After an up-and-down career with the Tigers, fans let Klubnik feel the love for the years he put toether.
Next week, Clemson will finish out the regular season with a road rivalry matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Rounding out a rough year with a big rivalry win would feel sweet.
Following tonight's win, the Tigers now stand at 6-5. There is no telling which bowl they will play in, but there should be a postseason game in the future for the program.
As for the future, there have been a lot of rumblings surrounding the Clemson program. Swinney has been viewed as a hot seat candidate and analysts have even gone as far as to urge him to find a way out. He has seemingly stayed loyal to the Tigers, but things can change.
It will be interesting to see what the offseason has in store for Clemson, but for now there is a reason to be happy. The Tigers are bowl eligible and have a chance to come through with a big-time rivalry victory next Saturday afternoon.
