Head coach Dabo Swinney has brought in Clemson's next offensive coordinator.

Head coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are finalizing a multi-year deal to make Chad Morris their next offensive coordinator after parting ways with Garrett Riley after the 2025 season.

Morris previously served as Clemson's offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2014 before becoming SMU's head coach. He served in an advisory role for Virginia in 2025. His most recent experience as an offensive coordinator was back in 2020 with Auburn.

Morris was successful as Clemson's offensive coordinator, helping establish the Tigers as one of the premier programs in college football.

In the 2012 season, Morris led the Tigers to a school-record 41 points per game and 512.7 yards per game.

While Morris has experience at Clemson, this seems like a desperate move for Swinney and the Tigers. He was successful in his first tenure, but that was over a decade ago.

Clemson is coming off a 7-6 season, with their final game being a loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Tigers entered the 2025 season as a favorite to win the National Championship and at least make it to the College Football Playoff.

Clemson fell way short of those goals and didn't even make it to the ACC Title Game. Swinney and the Tigers have a ton to figure out to turn around the program heading into the 2026 campaign.

One of those questions is who will be the quarterback for Clemson? Cade Klubnik finished off his career with the Tigers after four seasons. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 10,123 yards, 73 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions. He also rushed for 878 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Clemson will need to bring in a talented quarterback, possibly through the transfer portal, for Morris to have a chance of turning the offense around.

Swinney has been hesitant to be very active in the transfer portal in the past, but he'll likely have to be to improve the roster.

Swinney has built Clemson into one of the best college football programs, but underachieving in 2025, he is bringing back Morris as the offensive coordinator in a desperate attempt to turn the team around in 2026.
