Former Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins has Tigers fans across holding their breath after entering concussion protocol not once, but twice, within just a month's time. And, once again, he will not be able to participate Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
Higgins originally reported feeling concussion-like symptoms to head coach Zac Taylor shortly after the Bengals' 39-34 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He was checked for a concussion twice during the game, but was ultimately allowed to stay in.
The contest marked his first time back in action since he had to miss the Week 13 matchup against the Ravens with the same issue.
Higgins was officially ruled out on Friday afternoon by head coach Zac Taylor ahead of the Bengals' upcoming game against the Ravens (their second meeting of the season) as a result of this. The wideout was not a participant in the day's practice before his status was released, also participating in a limited capacity in two practices in the same week.
It is expected that Mitchell Tinsley will start in Higgins' place, which is the same route the Bengals took when they were without Higgins the last time.
Tinsley indicated, in a report from ESPN, that he looks forward to getting more opportunities and filling in when needed.
"Some of the opportunities didn't go my way last time," Tinsley said. "But whatever opportunities I get, whether it's one or however many, it's just about being in the moment and executing when I'm supposed to."
Tinsley finished out his last appearance against Baltimore with two receptions, though his total should have been much higher after he was targeted nine times. When Higgins went down, he had amassed six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
Higgins even managed one of those scoring grabs after he had been checked for a concussion.
It will be interesting to see how things play out Sunday, when comes in for Higgins again. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
