Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney has sent a strong message to quarterback Christopher Vizzina.
The Clemson Tigers' starting quarterback job is still undecided, but the general consensus is that Christopher Vizzina will open the season under center.
True freshman Tait Reynolds is Vizzina's competition, and head coach Dabo Swinney has clearly been impressed with him. But the job is Vizzina's to lose.
Swinney made this clear recently while also firing a stern message to Vizzina in the process.
“I want to see him take it and run with it,” Swinney said, via The Clemson Insider. “He’s, as I said, got the pole position, so I want to see him show up every day, not get too high, not get too low, and just show up every single day and prove it. Just bring that edge every day. Obviously, you want to see leadership at that position."
Vizzina arrived at Clemson in 2023 and spent his first three seasons behind Cade Klubnik. He got one start last year, going 29-for-42 with 313 yards and three touchdowns during a loss to SMU.
Otherwise, Vizzina's experience has been very minimal, and now entering his redshirt junior campaign, he needs to prove himself.

"He’s not a guy that just showed up here. He’s been working toward this, but really just want to see him take command of the offense.”
It's very obvious that Swinney doesn't want to just hand Vizzina the job. He wants him to work for it, even if he is the runaway favorite.
Many fans and pundits have expressed concern over Vizzina heading into 2026, this even though the Birmingham, Al. native is a former four-star recruit.
But perhaps Vizzina will prove everyone wrong this fall.
The good news is that Vizzina has a plethora of weapons at his disposal, so he should have no shortage of potential targets.
On the flip side, though, a pedestrian start to the season could result in Swinney having a quick hook and handing the reins off to Reynolds.
Clemson will open up against LSU on Sept. 5, and the pressure will immediately be on Vizzina from the get-go.
