Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney made a rather strange comment that is bad news for quarterback Christopher Vizzina.
The Clemson Tigers are expected to start Christopher Vizzina under center this season, but that does not mean there isn't a quarterback competition in fall camp.
In fact, it could end up being pretty fierce, and head coach Dabo Swinney has made that clear.
True freshman Tait Reynolds is battling Vizzina for the starting job, and Swinney obviously likes the former three-star recruit.
But does he like him enough to actually start him over the redshirt junior in Vizzina, who appeared to be Cade Klubnik's heir?
Based on a rather strange comment Swinney made at camp this week, possibly.
“I don’t have any starters. I’m just going to tell you there ain’t nobody starting,” Swinney said, via The Clemson Insider.
The Tigers entered camp with over 100 players, so the fact that none of them can be considered starters is wild.

“Somebody’s going to run out there today because you got to go practice,” Swinney said. “But we’re going to evaluate them every day and if you run out there first tomorrow, then that’s because you earned it today. Not because we just think you’re supposed to be the best one.”
To be quite frank, this seems like a clear message to Vizzina.
Let's be honest: T.J. Moore is starting. Bryant Wesco is starting. Sammy Brown, Will Heldt and Ashton Hampton. Those guys are all starting.
But the starting quarterback job is obviously up for grabs, and while Vizzina may hold an edge because of his experience, he can't get comfortable.
In fact, even if Vizzina does end up taking the reins for the season opener against LSU, he still can't relax. You kind of get the feeling that Swinney will have a quick hook with him, especially considering how impressed he has been with Reynolds.
Clemson has opened 2026 ranked 23rd in the Coaches Poll, and many have the Tigers finishing second in the ACC behind Miami.
But the biggest question for the club is undoubtedly who will be taking snaps in Week 1.
