The prevailing thought is that Christopher Vizzina will be under center for the Clemson Tigers come the 2026 season opener, but that isn't guaranteed.
Vizzina is battling with Chris Denson and numerous other candidates for the starting job, and Denson is unquestionably his top competition.
A former three-star recruit, Denson has certainly impressed head coach Dabo Swinney, and he understands he has to be at the top of his game this spring in order to win the quarterback job for next season.
The redshirt freshman is certainly taking the right approach and has been spending a great of time working with quarterbacks coach — and Clemson legend — Tajh Boyd to improve his passing, which is certainly a bit raw at the moment.
As far as what Denson expects from the challenge? Let's just say he has respect for everyone involved.
"All those guys in the room, we’re all fighting for that starting job," Denson told reporters. "I mean, myself, CV (Vizzina), Brock [Bradley], Tait [Reynolds], Trent [Pearman], that’s what we’re here for. You know what I mean? And I feel like at the end of the day, it’s going to make all of us better, no matter who runs out there first."

The Plant City, Fl. native saw some brief action in 2025, going 4-for-4 with 22 yards and a touchdown while also carrying the ball seven times for 108 yards and a score.
No one will ever doubt Denson's athleticism, which is what makes him such an enticing prospect. He is incredibly dynamic, and if he doesn't win the Tigers quarterback job for 2026, he many end up being utilized as a rusher and a decoy.
But if he gets better throwing the football, all bets are off.
Clemson is searching for an answer at signal-caller following the departure of Cade Klubnik, who had been the Tigers' starter the past three seasons.
Klubnik is definitely a tough act to follow, but perhaps Clemson has an obscure diamond in Denson who just hasn't gotten his chance just yet.
