Clemson’s Dabo Swinney Among All-Time Greats With Elite Statistic

Clemson Tigers' Dabo Swinney has cemented himself among the all-time great head coaches in college football history.

Swinney helped establish the Tigers as one of the best programs in the country over the past decade.

In a recent CBS Sports article, Swinney was listed in the coaching greatness category, as no active coach has appeared in more National Championship Games than he has, with four.

Swinney and the Tigers made it to four title games in five years from 2015 to 2019, winning two of them.

"Swinney's run at Clemson will never be forgotten, even as the NIL and transfer portal era has leveled the playing field a bit in recent years," CBS Sports' Brad Crawford wrote. "At one point in Clemson's climb, the Tigers won 12 or more games for five consecutive seasons and finished inside the top four of the final rankings every year from 2015 through the 2020 campaign. Both of Swinney's national championships came against Saban and Alabama. It was a stretch that rivaled the ACC's best ever, previously displayed by Bobby Bowden at Florida State from 1992 to 2000."

Clemson had an incredible run under Swinney, but they haven't been as successful of late. While they made the College Football Playoff in 2024, they struggled in 2025, going 7-6 and losing to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl.

The Tigers failed to reach the College Football Playoff or the ACC Title Game, despite entering the season ranked among the best teams in the nation.

Swinney is a legendary coach, and they will need him to lead a turnaround in the 2026 season. It will be a challenge, as Clemson lost nine players in the NFL Draft.

Swinney and the Tigers will rely on their new coaches, Chad Morris as offensive coordinator, and Rich Bisaccia as special teams coordinator, to help improve the results on the field.

Clemson still has a talented roster, and with Swinney's great track record as a coach, they have a chance to bounce back in 2026 and make it back to the College Football Playoff.
