One particular NFL team seems to be zeroing in on this Clemson Tigers star.
Clemson Tigers defensive tackle Peter Woods is one of the most polarizing players in this year's NFL Draft class.
Woods entered the 2025 college football season viewed by some as a top-five pick, but a disappointing junior campaign resulted in his stock slipping.
His stock has dropped so much, as a matter of fact, that some feel Woods could end up falling to the second round.
However, it appears that one NFL team is zeroing in on Woods with its own first-round draft choice.
The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly met with Woods "multiple times" and could ultimately select him with the 18th overall pick.
Considering the Vikings have a very clear need on the interior of their defensive line, this should not come as too much of a surprise.
Woods is one of the most intriguing prospects slated to be available when the draft begins on April 23.
The 21-year-old is an explosive athlete with outstanding potential, which we saw during his 2024 campaign when he racked up 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks, putting himself on the map as an elite NFL talent.
What makes Woods a bit controversial, though, is his inconsistency.
There is no question that Woods' production fell off this past year, as he registered 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a couple of sacks. Most expected him to take a big step forward in 2025. Instead, he actually regressed.
To be fair to Woods, Clemson as a whole was a massive disappointment this past season, going 7-6 in spite of entering the year with national title aspirations.
Perhaps all of the losing was contagious and adversely affected Woods.
That's still not a great excuse, but it could potentially explain why the Alabaster, Al. saw such a sharp dip in production.
Woods also does not have elite size for the defensive tackle position and projects to be more of a 3-tech on the professional level, but given his potential as a pass rusher, that's perfectly fine.
Perhaps Minnesota will nab Woods at No. 18 ... or maybe the Vikings will wait and see if Woods is still available when they pick in the second round at No. 49.
Woods' stock is that volatile right now.
