The Clemson Tigers can rewrite their entire narrative against the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday.
The Clemson Tigers are suddenly on a bit of a roll, having won three straight games heading into their Week 5 showdown with the Miami Hurricanes.
Clemson just defeated California on the road Friday night in a dominant defensive showing, stymying Jaron-Keawa Sagapolutele and a potential Golden Bears aerial attack.
But the Tigers will face a new kind of challenge this Saturday, as they prepare to face Heisman Trophy frontrunner Darian Mensah and the top-ranked Miami offense.
Make no mistake: Clemson will be a massive underdog in this game, and deservedly do. The Hurricanes have looked tremendous thus far in 2026, and while they have yet to play a truly good opponent, they are averaging nearly 600 yards per game while also being the nation's second-ranked defense.
I don't care what their schedule says: that's impressive.
The good news? The Tigers may have what it takes to muck this game up with a rugged defense led by Will Heldt, Sammy Brown and Ashton Hampton, all of whom have boosted their NFL Draft stock over the first several weeks of the season.
Clemson can rewrite its entire narrative with a win over Miami and begin to re-establish itself as a national power, and a victory would also completely remove Dabo Swinney from the hot seat.
You know the chatter around the water cooler about the Tigers: that they're no longer an elite program. That Swinney is out of touch. That their fanbase is delusional.
It's not just Paul Finebaum; that's been the running theme for almost anyone talking about Clemson, although those discussion points have admittedly quieted down over the last couple of weeks.
But if the Tigers can actually defeat the Hurricanes this weekend? Then even Finebaum might have to admit he was wrong.
Clemson has the luxury of being at home for this one, which is why I think they have a good shot of upsetting The U. The Tigers fans will be in a frenzy this Saturday, knowing for sure what is at stake within the confines of Memorial Stadium.
And while Clemson does not have the firepower to go blow-for-blow with Miami in a barnburner, it does have the defense and the physicality to turn this into a slobberknocker, and if that happens, the Tigers could emerge victorious.
Very few people outside of Clemson will actually be picking Swinney's squad to even have a chance in this game, but count me in as someone who believes.
